The Woolenwear Company was founded in 1936 by Charles J. Bernstein in Bloomington, IL and grew into a profitable and highly respected firm in the garment manufacturing industry.
From that small start, manufacturing primarily for mail order houses such as Sears, Montgomery Wards, and Spiegel's, the business grew to a sales volume of several million dollars. In 1952, The Danville Sportswear Co. was purchased, and later the Jules L. Simon Corp., with plants in Danville, IL and Frankfort, IN. Changing with the times, in 1986 the company moved to its current headquarters in Prospect Heights, IL. In October of 1999 Personalitee's Inc. was aquired, a promotional products supplier which specialized in Digital Heat Transfers.
